About Sonny Requejo
Consultant
I was once asked by a kid in his early teens “what do you do for work?” After briefly contemplating I answered “I am a professional advice giver.” Reflecting on that moment, it is an honest and accurate description of what I do for a living. I meet with people from all different backgrounds and ages and provide actionable solutions.
The Tradition of Education
“College has become what people do after high school because what other acceptable options are there?” -Sonny Requejo
Let’s Change the Game Together!
Welcome, future trailblazers! I’m here to shake things up and change the game of education with you.
Remember the K-12 days? The routine was predictable; you knew where to be, when, and what needed to be done. You spent the school day in lessons, with the occasional big project that spilled over into home time. Some students had a knack for time management or had a parent playing the overseer, leading to academic success. These students often made their way to top schools or, like most others, ended up at local community colleges.
There was a time when college was a place to explore, to “find yourself.” But with tuition soaring and the future uncertain, you might be asking, is it worth attending college if you’re unsure about your career?
That’s where I step in. I’m here to help you navigate your journey to success, leading to financial stability. It’s not just about getting you through college; it’s about helping you unlock your full potential and make your mark on society.
How do I approach this? By focusing on three key areas:
Career: I believe in starting early with career exploration. Ideally, around 7th grade, you’ll begin to consider potential fields, and by 11th grade, you may have a clearer vision of the path you want to follow. It’s about matching your college education with your career aspirations, so you’re not left in the dark.
Learning: Grades are important, sure. But I’m here to maximize your learning with intention. Whether you’re fresh out of high school or took a break before starting college, my goal is to help you become a competitive applicant, not just with grades, but with your ability to apply knowledge practically.
Academics: Here’s a twist – your academic path isn’t everything. Yes, your chosen career field will influence your courses and major. But I’m here to help you navigate the intricate details of earning a degree or transferring to a school, all tailored to your career ambitions.
Let’s redefine success together. Join me as we traverse through academia, focusing on career, intentional learning, and aligning academics to your goals. Let’s change the game, one step at a time.
How Am I Different?
What is the difference between you and my academic counselor?
I am certified to interpret the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) assessment. This assessment provides insight on a persons preferences. This framework helps with understanding communication challenges, how to manage change, or leadership style. All key factors in choosing a career.
I also have extensive experience helping students plan their coursework preparing them to transfer to Universities of California, California State Universities, and out of state and private institutions.
Having the combined experience allows me the ability to seamlessly work with you from begining to end withouth having to go from counselor to counselor.
What age group do you work with?
I work with anyone that is motivated to clarify and reach their goals efficiently by putting in the work necessary to achieve it but do not know the steps to get there.
Is there a cost?
At this time I just want to help out some families that are interested learning the necessary steps to achieve their idea of success.
